I moved to North Carolina from California with my husband and two boys in 2004. As much as I love my yearly trips to visit family in California, I am always happy to return to the Tar Heel State. I especially enjoy the hiking and waterways that are found abundantly in our own backyards. I also like to spend my spare time gardening (I have a second degree in Horticulture), attend my sons’ sporting events and read books in my backyard.
All About Me. I graduated from Francis Marion University in South Carolina, where I am originally from, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. I taught in South Carolina for a year before arriving here at Estes Hills Elementary School. I have been a part of what I call “my family” for 9 years. I have worked in grades K, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. So, I believe I am well rounded! I have a 6 year old daughter who attends Estes Hills and a future Estes Eagle, my 4 year old son. I love to read and go shopping. We love to play outside, travel and just spend time together as a family.
I have made Estes Hills my home for the past 19 years. While at Estes I have enjoyed teaching 2nd , 3rd and 4th grades; each one has been my “favorite.” I have had the pleasure of watching my entire family learn and grow on this campus. Each nook and cranny of this old school holds fond memories that I will cherish for a lifetime.
I moved to Chapel Hill from Elizabeth City, N.C. to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I graduated with a degree in Psychology and later attended Elizabeth City State University to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. I am certified in both early childhood (ages 3-8) and middle childhood (ages 7-12), and I am a National Board Certified teacher.
While attending UNC, I met my husband and we have lived here ever since. We have two children, our daughter who is a 7th grader at Phillips Middle School and our son who is a freshman at East Chapel Hill High. We have made both Chapel Hill and Estes Hills our home and are so happy for it!
I look forward to another exciting school year with your children. It’s going to be a great year!
I grew up in Salisbury, NC, the child of a Home Economics teacher and a History teacher/Coach. I moved to Chapel Hill in 1997 after finishing a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Reading Education at Appalachian State University. In addition to teaching first, second, and third grades, I've worked as a Reading Specialist and an Academic Coach - totaling 14 years of teaching experience. My husband and I have a rising first grader. We also have a rising junior in high school (my stepdaughter) and a rising sophomore at NCSU (my stepson). In addition to teaching elementary age children, I also love teaching Jazzercise to adults, which I've done for 13 years. Jazzercise not only keeps me fit, but also helps me relieve stress and maintain my sanity...I mean, the stamina I need to keep up with my students. I'm looking forward to getting to know my students and their families this year!
