Welcome to Leary's Lemurs!
This is my first year at Estes Hills and my second year teaching. I taught fourth grade last year at Creekside Elementary. I studied Elementary Education at UNC and graduated in May 2015. Go heels! Right now I live in Durham but I'll be moving to Chapel Hill next year when I get married. I love Chapel Hill, but I'm originally from Wilmington. I love going to the beach. Some of my other hobbies include arts and crafts, baking, and playing music. I'm currently learning to play ukulele and guitar. I'm super excited to be teaching fifth grade math and science. Let's make it a great year!
I grew up in Beirut, Lebanon and moved to the United States after earning my undergraduate degree from the American University of Beirut. I earned my M.Ed in Special Education, with a focus on gifted education from the University of Utah. Chapel Hill has been my hometown since 1989. This is my 28th year teaching in North Carolina, my 18th at Estes. I have taught K-5 & 5th grade is my favorite to teach!
I studied at North Carolina Central University, so I can truly say that I am an Eagle in every sense of the word! In addition to teaching, I love working with the theater. I played in many small community theater productions when I was younger, but these days I prefer to stay behind the scenes. During the summers I work for The Young People’s Performing Company in Durham as assistant director and stage manager for our 5th-8th grade drama and musical theater camps.
I've lived in Chapel Hill for almost 20 years, and my partner John and I have had a lot of fun this summer with our two new kittens, Ripley and Miette, both from the Orange County Animal Shelter. I love reading, going to the movies, board game night with my friends, cooking, and seeing live music. I'm proud to call myself a huge nerd!I am so excited to get to work with another awesome class of Estes Hills fifth graders. We are going to have an amazing year!
